Design type: vector illustrations and repeating patterns
Technique: hand-drawn elements, later digitized and assembled into montages using image-editing software
Date of creation: summer 2023

In 2023, I first came across the concept of print on demand and discovered Redbubble. I was immediately drawn to the idea of seeing my own drawings appear on everyday objects, so I decided to dive deeper into the subject. I explored what needs to be considered when designing repeating patterns and began imagining my first collections.
After creating a few simpler, expolratory designs, I eventually brought this collection to life — Lumintalar.
The collection takes its name from a famous forest in one of my imagined worlds: the Lumintalar Forest. This woodland is home to many magical beings — golden-feathered birds, gold-spotted mushrooms, a unique glowing flower called luminisyntax, and its most remarkable inhabitants, the lundragels.
These are small, slender, four-winged golden dragons who appear here and there throughout the forest, helping and entertaining travelers who happen to wander into its depths.
The illustrations were created in the style of my earlier paper-based drawings: black outlines, saturated colors, schematic characters, and abstract elements. The overall color palette can be broken down into two main components: a blue-turquoise color harmony, and the contrast created by the opposition of blue-turquoise tones with yellow, orange, and golden hues.
The density and “deep forest” atmosphere are emphasized through three-dimensional compositional solutions, where individual elements appear in front of and behind one another. The protagonist emerges from behind the leaves, dragons hide among the plants, and leaves of various shapes and patterns overlap and layer densely across the image.
The goal was to depict a lush, magical forest — rich and overgrown — with a mysterious mood and distinct fantasy elements.
The finished illustrations and patterns then came to life through Redbubble’s mockups:
